Shirley M. Glynn, PhD
About the Author
Shirley M. Glynn, PhD, received her doctorate in clinical/social psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1985. She is a clinical research psychologist at the Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System at West Los Angeles and an associate research psychologist at the Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA. She is also a licensed psychologist in California. Her primary professional interests include the development and testing of psychosocial treatments for serious psychiatric illnesses, such as Schizophrenia and chronic Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She has been working in the field of PTSD for the past fifteen years. She directed the first randomized trial on family therapy for PTSD and was the national Trauma Focus Group Treatment supervisor for VA Cooperative study 320, which was the largest investigation on group treatment for PTSD. Both of these projects included participants with chronic combat-related PTSD. More recently, she has been studying factors related to the development and maintenance of PTSD among survivors of community violence, as well as implementing innovative treatments in medical settings. She has published extensively in the field of PTSD and serious psychiatric illnesses.
