Course Abstract

This is a web-based course based on a 27-page report from the American Psychological Association regarding Multicultural Competency in Geropsychology (click link to download free public-access document) and is relevant for any mental health professional working with older adults. The 2009 APA report summarizes the work of the American Psychological Association Committee on Aging and its Working Group on Multicultural Competency in Geropsychology. The purposes are to: explore the key issues regarding the infusion of multicultural competence throughout geropsychology; make recommendations for future action addressing practice, research, education and training, and public policy issues; and inform health professionals of existing resources to improve their own multicultural competence in working with older adults.
