Michigan continuing education (CE) requirements:
New requirement: Implicit Bias Training - For initial renewals completed after June, 1 2021, completion of one hour of implicit bias training is required for each year of licensure since June 1, 2021. If renewing prior to June 1, 2022, implicit bias training is not required for that renewal. Once the initial renewal is completed, then 1 hour of implicit bias training will be required for each year of the current license cycle going forward. Please note, this is not a one-time training and must be completed for each renewal cycle prior to the renewal being completed. This training is in addition to any continuing education training for your profession and is required every time you renew your license.
Michigan Board of Psychology
CE Required: 30 hours every two years
Online CE Allowed: No limit
License Expiration: 8/31, every 2 years
National Accreditation Accepted: APA
Notes: 2 hours of pain management (including, but are not limited to: courses in behavior management, psychology of pain, pharmacology, behavior modification, stress management, clinical applications, and drug interventions as they relate to professional practice. and symptoms); 3 hours of ethics are required at each renewal; One time requirement of Training to Identify Victims of Human Trafficking with initial licensure. This is separate from continuing education

Michigan Board of Counseling
CE Required: No
Online CE Allowed: N/A
License Expiration: 5/31, every 2 years
National Accreditation Accepted: The law for Counseling does not require continuing education for renewal. A licensee is responsible for maintaining their competence in the profession, but a licensee does not have to demonstrate the ways he or she is doing that for renewal.

New Requirement: Implicit Bias Training Effective June 1, 2022 - New applicants for licensure or registration are required to have completed 2 hours of Implicit Bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of their license or registration. Renewing applicants and registrants are required to complete 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license or registration cycle. Example: If your license is issued for 3 years, then you must complete 3 hours of implicit bias training during each renewal cycle. This training is in addition to any continuing education training for your profession and is required every time you renew your license.
