Florida SLP Continuing Education (CE) Requirements:
Florida SLPs are required to earn 30 hours of continuing education (CE) each renewal period (every 2 years).
Required Subject Areas:
- 2 hours on Medical Errors are required each renewal
- 18 hours must be clinically related (all 28 “general” hours can be)
- 10 hours are allowed from non-clinical coursework

“Clinically Related” is defined as providing the licensee with information, techniques, procedures, or protocols that can be applied in the direct assessment, treatment, diagnosis, or counseling of patients.
License Renewal Deadline: 12/31, odd years
Required Background Screening
As of July 1, 2025, all healthcare professionals in Florida must comply with background screening requirements when applying for initial licensure or renewing their license. Your license renewal will not be approved until this requirement, along with all other licensure criteria, has been met. First Renewal?
- Florida SLPs renewing a license for the first time and were initially licensed after July 1st of an odd year are exempt from CE requirements.
- Florida SLPs renewing a license for the first time and were initially licensed between January 1 and June 30 of an odd year are required to complete 18 clinically related hours and a 2-hour course relating to the prevention of medical errors.
- Florida SLPs renewing a license for the first time and were initially licensed between January 1 and December 31 of an even year are required to complete 30 credit hours, 18 of which shall be clinically related, 10 nonclinical hours, and a 2-hour course relating to the prevention of medical errors.
CE Broker
The Department of Health will now verify continuing education records in the electronic tracking system (CE Broker) at the time of license renewal.
Professional Development Resources is CE Broker compliant (#50-1635) and has been since 2004. All courses are reported within two business days of completion.
