Illinois School Psychologists Continuing Education Requirements and Information
Illinois State Board of Education
CE Required
The Illinois State Department of Education certifies school psychologists. Candidates may apply for certification as school psychologists in Illinois through the traditional pathway or the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) pathway. Psychologists who wish to practice outside a school setting must have a license issued by the Illinois Board of Psychological Examiners http://www.idfpr.com/profs/psych.asp. PELs are valid for five years after professional development requirements are met. The NCSP credential is accepted as meeting renewal requirements. Those without the NCSP must obtain 120 continuing professional development hours (PD hours) every five years.

Beginning with the renewal period ending November 30, 2027, for all currently licensed clinical social workers, and the second renewal after initial licensure of a clinical social worker, 6 of the required 30 hours of CE shall be in clinical supervision training. This is a one-time (lifetime) requirement.
A renewal applicant shall not be required to comply with CE requirements for the first renewal of an Illinois license.
Illinois social workers can earn all 30 hours for renewal through online courses offered by PDR.
