Three (3) hours in ethics and two (2) hours specific to veterans and or families of veterans are required each renewal. For LPCs, the ethics training must be based on or include the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics; for LMFTs, the AAMFT Code of Ethics should be used. The licensee may complete these requirements online (virtual) or in person. All NBCC or ACA approved courses are automatically approved by the Board.
To satisfy CEU requirements, the LPC CEU FOCUS AREAS and LMFT CEU FOCUS AREAS must be covered.
A licensee who is an Approved Licensed Professional Supervisor (ALPS) shall complete three (3) required continuing education hours in clinical counseling supervision. The hours can be included in the 20 hours of allowable home study or formal programs required. The program must have “clinical supervision” in the title or offering description and shall be NBCC, ACA, or WVBEC approved.
West Virginia LPCs may earn up to 20 hours per renewal through online (home study) courses offered by PDR. Course completions are reported to CE Broker within 24 hours.

At least twenty (20) hours MUST be presented by a Board approved provider, ten (10) of which must be face-to-face/synchronous.
At least 2 of the 20 Category I contact hours shall be in mental health conditions specific to veterans and family members of veterans.
At least 1 of the 20 contact hours shall be in social work ethics.
The Board permits individuals to take up to ten (10) hours of approved online coursework/asynchronous training (online training that is self-paced).
Licensees may use up to 10 hours in Individual Professional Activities (Category II) that do not require prior approval. Course content must relate to social work or improving your practice and may include online courses in excess of the approved ten hours.
CE Broker is the preferred method for submitting CE credits. However, if you choose not to activate your free CE Broker account, you may still mail your continuing education credits. Click here to learn more.
